Tehran, Iran – Iranian President Mohammad Pezeshkian issued a stern warning, accusing external enemies of sowing discord among Islamic nations by sowing discord within them. His words came during a speech honoring a significant event in Iran’s history where he stressed unity within Muslim communities in light of mounting regional and global challenges.
President Pezeshkian warned of Islam’s enemies working tirelessly to sow discord among Muslim nations, hoping to exploit our differences to weaken our collective strength and prevent us from reaching peace and prosperity. It is imperative that Islamic nations recognize these tactics used against them and unite together against anyone seeking to divide us.”
Pezeshkian made these remarks at a time of increased geopolitical tensions in the Middle East, including ongoing conflicts in Syria, Yemen and Iraq, and disputes among various Islamic countries. Pezeshkian noted that some powers, both regional and global, have long sought to exploit sectarian and political divisions within Islam for their own strategic aims; such divisive strategies have undermined solidarity between Muslim nations by fuelling conflict between Sunnis and Shia factions or by fomenting sectarian tensions within Islam itself.
President Pezeshkian specifically denounced foreign interventions by Western and regional powers that have historically worsened internal conflicts in Muslim-majority nations. Colonial powers as well as their modern successors continue to interfere in our affairs through divide-and-conquer tactics which create instability in the region and extend conflicts beyond resolution, according to Pezeshkian.
Given these external attempts at breaking apart the unity of Islamic countries, President Pezeshkian stressed the need for renewed inter-Muslim solidarity. Pezeshkian noted: “We must learn from history. Our enemies have always tried to divide us; however, this must not stop us from strengthening bonds among ourselves and recognising that Islamic identity is far more potent than any divisive ideology.”
He also stressed the significance of dialogue and cooperation among Islamic nations on issues that concern them all, such as fighting terrorism, economic development and humanitarian crises. Islamic nations must work together to face any challenges related to security, poverty or the preservation of cultural and religious heritages that arise.
Regional observers have closely been following Iran President Hassan Rouhani’s remarks as they come at a time of shifting alliances within the Middle East. Recently, Islamic countries such as Saudi Arabia and United Arab Emirates have undertaken diplomatic initiatives with an eye toward reducing tensions and encouraging cooperation. Yet, challenges persist, with global powers continuing to influence regional dynamics.
President Pezeshkian made clear in his closing remarks that Islam lies at its strength in unity; only together can we secure its future prosperity and peace for our people, he stated.
As the world watches, Pezeshkian’s call for unity resounds amid ongoing regional conflicts, underscoring the importance of cooperation among Islamic nations to address common challenges and protect collective interests.
