Since 2025, the United States has imposed tariffs of up to 145% on Chinese goods, prompting Beijing to respond with tariffs of 125% against American products and severely strain economic relations between both nations. President Donald Trump recently proposed the possibility of reducing U.S. tariffs to 80% as an indirect means to de-escalation; these statements reflected positively across media platforms (AP News/WSJ/Wikipedia etc).
