A man who is suspected of being involved in the infamous Mumbai terror attack has been placed in custody after a preliminary hearing in the Mumbai court earlier in the day.

This suspect, whose name remains secret because of ongoing investigations is believed to have played an important role in the planning and facilitation of the violence that shook the financial capital of India. The coordinated attack were carried out across several important locations in Mumbai, took victims of more than 160 and injured hundreds of others.

A spokesperson from The National Investigation Agency (NIA) confirmed that the suspect was arrested following an inter-agency operation with intelligence agencies from around the world. “This is an important advancement in the long-running investigation. This arrest is a crucial move towards bringing justice to the families of victims,” an NIA spokesperson declared.

The man was arraigned before a magistrate in a crowded courtroom with tight security. Prosecutors asked to have him placed in judicial custody while additional investigation is conducted and charges are formulated. The court agreed to the request which means that the man will stay in the custody until the next court date at the end of this month.

Authorities haven’t revealed specific information regarding the man’s possible involvement in the attack due to the sensitive nature in the inquiry. However, sources familiar with the investigation have suggested that he could have been accountable for logistical support as well as coordination of communication during the 2008 siege.

The Mumbai attacks which lasted four days, are still one of the most horrific terrorist attacks in India’s history. The incident continues to attract international and national attention and the families of victims still seeking closure over a decade after the event.
